This chart compiles some of the common and uncommon medications prescribed for individuals with autism spectrum disorders. Feel free to make suggestions/additions to this list. It is a work in progress.

Stimulant Medications

Tegretol carbamazepine any age (for seizures)

*The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved Risperdal as autism medication to treat irritability in autistic children and adolescents. The drug can be used to treat aggression, deliberate self-injury and temper tantrums. Risperdal is considered an atypical antipsychotic drug manufactured by Janssen Pharmaceutica N.V. in Beerse, Belgium.

** The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved Bristol-Myers Squibb Co’s and Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co’s anti-psychotic drug Abilify to treat irritability in pediatric patients with autistic disorder on November 20, 2010.
